College baseball is back, and the 2025 season is shaping up to be one for the ages! With powerhouse programs reloading through the transfer portal, elite draft prospects returning for another shot at glory, and championship ambitions fueling every pitch, this year’s Preseason Top 25 is stacked with talent and storylines that will define the road to Omaha.
Over the last few draft cycles, the Midwest itself has produced several notable draft names, college products, and upper tier prospects in the professional ranks such as Jarred Kelenic and Gavin Lux. With eleven months to go, it’s still awfully early to project anything concrete, but some early live looks suggest a potential big year for the region in 2022.
The 2021 MLB Draft was bursting at the seams with guys whose strikeout rates had big league scouts keeled over and nauseated. Too many “premier” bats in last year’s class were plagued with extreme swing-and-miss concerns. Batted-ball data doesn’t matter if the ball isn’t, well, batted. The 2022 class appears much healthier in that respect. Leading the charge may be Alabama shortstop Jim Jarvis, a sight for sore eyes and a throwback to yesteryear.
It’s time we turn the page and flip our focus to the 2022 draft class. Over the past month, we’ve had one of our evaluators take in over 25 Cape Cod League games. Three of our evaluators were in attendance for all four days of the Perfect Game National Showcase. We’ve also got credentials at the USA Baseball College National Team contests. In total, our evaluators have taken in over 100 college baseball games over the past calendar year, developing their thoughts on the 2022 draft class, capturing footage along the way.
